Harvest Bread

A hands-on bread making workshop with Robin van Creveld, offering expert tuition and support, breads and recipes to take home, and fun, food and friendship.
Celebrate the abundance of the harvest using locally grown and milled flour. Make a traditional harvest wreath loaf, courgette and hazelnut bread and wild mushroom pizza.
These workshops are suitable for novices and enthusiasts alike and includes a lovely lunch.

Apple Pressing

Last year we pressed 515 litres of delicious, fresh juice from apples and pears that would otherwise have gone to waste in gardens in and around Lewes. This year, the Apple Press returns so that you can celebrate the quality and quantity of your localf ruit again. Bring along your washed fruit to the Press plus clean, plastic containers. We'd also value the names of your apple trees and, if you're willing to volunteer some time to help with the pressing, that would be welcome too.

Dancing In The Old

Harveys' annual event to usher in the new season's beer. Old is a Victorian-style dark winter brew, produced from higher proportions of crystal malt. It was Harveys' first beer to win a National Award, in 1952, and has won many other accolades since.

Hog Roast at the Buttercup Cafe

This year, on the first Saturday of the October Feast, the Buttercup we will be serving a hog roast supplied by our friendly local butcher, Peter Richards. Roasting starts at 6 in the morning to ensure a deliciously ready hog from mid-day, chewy brown ciabatta will wrap the meat. For vegetarians we will be celebrating with all things apple; savoury, sweet and of course apple inspired refreshments.
Learning from last year we will make a huge bowl of apple sauce, as it is the most delicious and popular accompaniment to all dishes. Our aim this year is to perfect the art of the toffee apple ... we have given ourselves a challenge! With the likelihood of variable weather we will be ensuring we have outside cover. Harveys Harvest Thanksgiving

Harveys annual church service in celebration of the Harvest and, most especially in this case, the hops. This treasured Lewes church with its landmark 15th century tower will be decorated with freshly picked hops and barley, traditional harvest anthems will be sung, Morris Dancers will dance, and hop growers will give thanks.

Would you like the luxury of a delicious home-cooked meal in the comfort of someone else's home? Then membership to our Pop-Up Dinner Club is for you ... we’re very excited about our special Octoberfeast Pop Up Dinners and are thrilled to be bringing this underground phenomenon to Lewes by hosting a series of OctoberFeast Secret Suppers from Friday 30th September – Saturday 8th October. Lewes is obviously full of keen cooks as we can now list a host of hosts who are ready to put on a dinner party to remember for a table of surprise guests.
You can become a member of the Pop-Up Dinner Club by choosing which menu theme appeals to you most, then pay for your membership online for a fee of £22 per person. Your membership fee covers one meal per person, but if you're feeling adventurous (or hungry!) we're offering a special deal of £40 for a Dual Dinner Deal which will allow you to buy two meals per person (contact us here if you're interested). Unless otherwise stated, the hosts are Lewes-based, and their address will be disclosed to you once you've become a member. Your membership card will be given to you on the night when you arrive.
Listed below under 'More Details' are the dates and the themes of the dinners - you choose and pay for your dinner and we will then send you the location and time etc.

You can book separately for our very special gourmet dinner which is being prepared by Masterchef 2006 winner Peter Bayless who will entertain 10 guests at his home near Heathfield; apart from his fabulous food there will be the added spice of some ‘behind the scenes’ gossip from the TV studios! Membership to attend his gourmet dinner costs £35pp but will be worth every last mouthful!
