A fun new event from Common Cause, ‘Pickled’ will form part of the Lewes OctoberFeast, celebrating the art of food preservation with fascinating talks and presentations, from storing and bottling to pickling and drying, and feature the town’s first official ‘Crop Swap’ which offers a chance to exchange any gluts or surpluses with other local growers.
Also on offer are:
- Talks and workshops: a chance to pick up tips ands secrets of the trade from some esteemed local experts, on storing, potting, bottling, pickling, drying, as well as advice on creating your own delicious jams, jellies, chutneys, relishes and curds.
- Stalls
Local food producers, including many favourites from our own fabulous Farmers’ Market, as well as some new faces from the Sussex area, will have lots of tasty produce to tempt you. An ideal chance to stock up for the season or buy for Christmas.
- King (or Queen) of Ketchups
Think you have the best ketchup recipe in town? Put your skills to the test and enter the Ketchup King competition. Open to all age groups, this coveted title will be given to the individual who can best impress the all age judging panel, with the tastiest ketchup of the season.
- Pickled Tip Tree or How to Peel an Onion !
We are asking the public to Share some of their own cooking and preserving knowledge by sending us their favourite tips and techniques, to include on our Tip Tree display at the Market Tower site.
